TECH | HubSpot | Preview Customization: What It Is and How to Edit It
Purpose
This training explains what Preview Customization is in HubSpot and how to edit it for Companies or Contacts.
Learners will understand how to adjust which fields appear in the record preview sidebar to streamline workflow and ensure key information is visible without opening the full record.
Training Content

In HubSpot, hover over any Company or Contact record.

Click Preview to open the sidebar view — this displays quick details such as location, phone number, and associated records.

This preview allows users to review essential data without opening the entire record.

To edit what appears in this preview:

Click the Settings gear icon in the upper-right corner of HubSpot.

In the left-hand menu, scroll to Data Management.

Expand the Objects section (if it’s collapsed).

Select the object you want to customize — for example, Contacts or Companies.

Click Preview Customization near the top of the screen.

You’ll see a Default View listed (and possibly additional team-specific views).

Click Default View to edit it.

The preview layout editor will open, displaying all current fields such as Email, Phone Number, Street Address, City, State, and Region.

To make changes:

Click the pencil icon to modify field content.

Drag and drop fields to reorder them.

Use the three dots (⋮) to remove a card or field.

If the preview appears too busy, remove less important fields to simplify the layout.

Once satisfied, click Save and Exit in the upper-right corner to apply your changes.
